Officers from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement and Corrections Divisions participated in a state-wide charity event for a good cause. They ran with men and women from police departments across Monmouth County as the “flame of hope” was carried for Special Olympics New Jersey. Sheriff Kim Guadagno was on hand to celebrate the morning kick-off of the 2009 Law Enforcement Annual Torch Run, in Lakewood on Friday, June 12.

This year, the Olympic-type torch run spans 900 miles in 387 New Jersey communities. In Monmouth County, men and women from the Sheriff’s Office ran alongside officers from local municipalities as the torch traveled towards the College of New Jersey in Ewing, where this year’s 2009 Summer Games are being held.

Last year, officers from law enforcement agencies across the state raised 2.2 million dollars through the torch run and other annual law enforcement fundraising events.
Some 3000 members of law enforcement participated in the 28 leg run.
