SHERIFF GOLDEN RE-ELECTED TO SERVE RESIDENTS OF MONMOUTH COUNTY
Freehold: Shaun Golden was re-elected to serve as the Monmouth County Sheriff for a sixth, three-year term. Sheriff Golden proudly leads more than 600 sworn officers and employees who are dedicated to serving the public safety needs in Monmouth County through the Law Enforcement, Communications, Corrections and Special Operations Divisions, as well as the administration of the Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management, the Monmouth County EMS Operation MedStar, the Monmouth County Police and Fire Academies and the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office.
“It is an honor and privilege to have been re-elected as the Monmouth County Sheriff and I thank the residents for their continued support,” said Sheriff Golden, the 76th Sheriff of Monmouth County. “As sheriff it’s my duty to continue to serve all who live, work or visit this great county, as we remain committed to protecting our communities and maintaining the highest standards of public safety.”
Sheriff Golden’s strong leadership skills, commitment to public safety initiatives and innovative approaches have led the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office to serve as a statewide model. His most recent achievement is the advancement of the countywide Emergency Medical Services Operation – MedStar. The coordinated effort led by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office along with the support of the Board of County Commissioners, assists local agencies in need with emergency medical calls and aim to ensure the most timely and effective emergency medical responses for the residents of Monmouth County.
Since its launch in 2024 more than 12,000 calls for service have been answered with an average response time in under six minutes, at zero cost to municipalities. Sheriff Golden’s state of the art 9-1-1 Communications Center, the largest shared service in Monmouth County, continues to serve as a blueprint in emergency services, driven by cutting edge technology, hard work, intense training of public safety telecommunicators and inter agency cooperation. The Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management is an industry leader in emergency and disaster response, developing numerous programs and initiatives focused on planning, preparing, and recovery. OEM’s highly trained Community Emergency Response Team, CERT, strengthens Monmouth County’s resilience and enhances readiness to respond to any crisis.
The sheriff also leads the way in the fight against drug abuse, playing an integral role in prevention through programs and services the agency provides. He implemented the HOPE One Mobile Unit, a leading-edge approach to combat the opioid epidemic in Monmouth County and remains a strong supporter and participant of the Drug Takeback Program. The sheriff has strengthened homeland security issues and counterterrorism efforts with state, county and local law enforcement agencies, to maintain the safety and security of residents and visitors throughout Monmouth County. He also continues to address school violence through active shooter drills and training, and works on combatting gang activity through gang awareness prevention initiatives.
An advocate for reform, Sheriff Golden has been in the forefront of tackling auto theft, urging state officials to take immediate action on catch and release policies and failed bail reform. Under his leadership, the Law Enforcement Division’s K-9 Unit has grown to be one of the largest in the state, and the Situational Training and Response Simulator (STARS) facility, serves as one of the few virtual premiere training centers used by our public safety partners in Monmouth County and New Jersey. The Monmouth County Correctional Institution continues to uphold the highest standard of excellence achieving 100 percent compliance with the NJ Department of Corrections.
Sheriff Golden remains deeply committed to supporting the community through a wide range of outreach, services, and training initiatives. He is actively engaged in assisting veterans, providing access to essential services and training opportunities through the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Veteran Service Council. He is an avid supporter for the special needs community by implementing and developing programs for families of children with autism and special needs residents, as well as training members of law enforcement how to respond to situations involving special needs individuals.
Sheriff Golden is also active in the fight against human trafficking, working with local, state, and federal partners to raise awareness, enhance investigative efforts, and protect victims of this serious crime.
In addition, the sheriff has been recognized for his extensive public safety outreach programs for seniors and children.
The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office is the only law enforcement agency in New Jersey with accreditations in all five areas of operation, which include law enforcement, communications, corrections, correctional healthcare, and public safety training of the Monmouth County Police Academy, underscoring its excellence and leadership in public safety.
