It is the goal of our agency to provide college students seeking degrees in Criminal Justice or other related majors the opportunity to experience some duties of law enforcement officers and related professions within the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office has four divisions which include the Law Enforcement, Corrections, Communications, and the Special Operations.
Internships will consist of a minimum of 90 hours volunteer assignment as a student intern. During the course of the internship, the student will be exposed to various aspects within the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office. They will experience daily operations in all divisions– including but not limited to:
Warrant Fugitive Bureau
Criminal Investigations Bureau
Monmouth County Correctional Institute
Monmouth County Correctional Institute Gang Unit
Monmouth County Sheriff’s Officers K9 Demonstration
Programs offered by the Sheriff’s Office
Office of Emergency Management
Police Academy Operations
Information technology unit
Currently enrolled in an accredited academic institution (Those enrolled in Monmouth County Post Secondary Educational Institutions will be given first priority)
Academic Institution must enter into agreement with MCSO
Major in Criminal Justice or related field
Have a minimum GPA of 3.2
In junior or senior year of their respective degree program
Submit 2 letters of recommendation from faculty members
An updated copy of your resume with cover letter describing the area of interest and anticipated start date of the internship
Submit a copy of valid driver’s license and social security card
No criminal history

Student internships are limited to 5 per semester and will be approved on a first come first serve basis. Application periods including deadlines for submission are listed below. Dates in bold are deadlines for consideration for acceptance in respective semesters.
Fall Semester Applications accepted July 1 – August 1
Spring Semester Applications accepted November 1 – December 1
Summer Semester Applications accepted April 1 – May 1
Note: Students enrolled in post secondary academic institutions located within Monmouth County will be given priority consideration.
