Executive Undersheriff Ted Freeman – Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office

Ted is the executive undersheriff with the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, Freehold, New Jersey. Ted serves as acting sheriff in the absence of the sheriff, coordinates Sheriff Youth Week, Citizen Police Academy and Law Enforcement Mini Academy and oversees the Monmouth County Correctional Institution. Ted also serves as the agency’s disciplinary hearing officer as well as instructs the six- day Methods of Instruction Course (which qualifies police officers for NJ Police Training Commission certification to teach at police academies), and has been the Monmouth County Police Academy Ethics instructor since 1974.

Ted has a B.A. degree in Education and an A.M.A. Certificate in Management from Monmouth University; a B.A. degree in Social Sciences – Law/Justice Specialization from Thomas Edison University; and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 176th Session. Ted has as a background in municipal, county and state law enforcement. He is a New Jersey certified teacher (K-12), New Jersey Police Training Commission certified police instructor since 1974, certified trainer of instructors since 1986, and a nationally certified WMD instructor. Ted is a frequent presenter at state and national public safety conferences and is a frequent contributor to national public safety periodicals.  Ted is a life member of the National Sheriffs’ Association and presently serves on NSA’s Youth and Juvenile Justice Committee.

Ted has had the privilege to serve four sheriffs:  William M. Lanzaro (1985-1995), Joseph W. Oxley (2002-2007), Kim Guadagno (2008-2009) and Shaun Golden (2010-present).
