Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB)

The Criminal Investigations Bureau is the main investigative arm of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office. The CIB is responsible for the investigation of criminal activities, conducting follow-up investigations and provides investigative assistance to local, county and state law enforcement agencies. The detectives assigned have received advanced training in all aspects of criminal investigations and utilize the latest technology to assist in the identification and prosecution of criminal suspects.

Records Bureau

This advanced, cutting edge bureau uses state-of-the art methods to process the more than 11,000 prisoners who enter the Monmouth County Correctional Institution each year. More than 16,000 criminal history reports are generated, and more than 10,000 warrant computer checks are done each year.

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office was one of the first in the state to use a computer-imaging device to fingerprint prisoners. The device is connected to federal crime computers, and can match fingerprints within hours. This has resulted in numerous additional charges lodged against prisoners because the response time is so rapid. Before the machine was installed, it could take up to two weeks to check for matching prints, which often meant officers had to re-arrest a prisoner who had been released. More than 600 positive responses for people wanted by other jurisdictions were recorded in one year alone.
